An Enchanted Evening at Castle Hill is designed to delight all the senses. The evening begins as you are handed a glass of champagne while the valet parks your car. In today's show they discuss Beethoven at the Breakers to be performed at The Breakers Tuesday, July 9 @ 8:00 pm. Colloquially known as “Appassionata”, Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 23 was written as the artist’s hearing was in a state of rapid decline. It is one of the three famous piano sonatas of his middle period. At one performance of this dynamic piece, Beethoven is said to have had a technician on hand to remove the broken strings that would accumulate during the piece’s explosive finale. In today's show they discuss the Summer Winds concert at The Breakers on Tuesday, July 16 @ 8:00 pm. Arnold Bax was a wonderful pianist but loved writing poetry and composing. He spent a great deal of time in Ireland and made deep friendships. In the 1916 Easter Uprising, several of these friends were brutally executed. The Elegiac Trio composed that Spring was written as a memorial. Beautifully tranquil and dreamlike in nature, it is a gorgeous homage to those whom he loved. This recording tells the story of Bach's life, his trials and successes, his family life and court experiences, told through the eyes of “Mr. Bach”. The story is beautifully interwoven with Bach's best-loved music including a rich array of Brandenburg concertos, cantatas, orchestral suites. The account begins with a little girl resisting practicing the piano, until Mr. Bach comes to call and she realizes the value of music it is and the satisfaction of plenty of practice. They have won First Prize in the 2017 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and holds the Helen F. Whitaker Chamber Music Chair of YCA. It makes debuts during the 2018-2019 season in the Peter Jay Sharp Concert of YCA in New York at Merkin Concert Hall, and in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center. In this weeks WCRI Classical Kids Hour hosts Jamie & Pamela invite you to join them as they listen to Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood’s mother sends her daughter to Grandma’s house with some treats. Red takes her time in the forest, singing with a mockingbird and picking strawberries. The wolf appears, assures Red he is not a stranger, and calls her by name. Relieved, Red tells him about her sick Grandma. The wolf feigns interest and compassion. Red begins to tell the wolf about all of the treats she is bringing Grandma, and the wolf’s stomach begins to sour - sweets make him sick. Angered by Red and embarrassed by what she has done to him, he goes to Grandma’s house intent on eating Grandma and having Red for dessert.
