PPAC-A Chorus Line - In this episode of Conducting Conversations w/ Mike Maino, Mike talks with one of his favorite guests...Director of Marketing for the Providence Performing Arts Center PJ Prokop. They discuss and play music from the upcoming performance of A Chorus Line at PPAC.
In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. The field’s been narrowed down to just 17 dancers. For these men and women, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for — with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed of. Not to be the star, but to get the job … to have the chance to dance and come through.
But before the final cut is made, the director Zach asks each of them to talk about themselves. He starts by asking their name, age, hometown and reason for being a dancer. But Zach wants more than just their resumes. He wants to know about their families, friends, lovers, ambitions and careers. One by one, they come forward.
Some are shy or reluctant, while others are more than happy to reveal their innermost thoughts. From funny to heartbreaking, these 17 dancers share with us the stories of their lives. They put themselves on the line to get a job on the line. And when they’re done, so is the audition. And the final chorus line of 8 dancers is chosen.

Cameron Greenlee-Pianist, Arranger and Composer - In this episode of Conducting Conversations w/ Mike Maino, Mike talks with Cameron Greenlee a local pianist, composer & arranger and plays some of Camerons pieces.
Cameron Greenlee, grew up on City Island in the Bronx, New York and has spent his life between New York and Block Island, RI. Although his musical foundation was built on a strict classical training, his artistic influences range from Warren Zevon to Bill Evans, from W.A. Mozart to Bob Marley, from Jelly Roll Morton to Nirvana, and beyond. In school, Cameron discovered his love for jazz, and began experimenting stylistically. Blues, reggae, baroque, punk- his artistry is fresh, embedded with yearning for something entirely new and unique in the sonic realm. With formal training from the University of Miami and El Conservatorio de Música de Toledo, Spain, he received a Bachelor's certificate in keyboard performance from the University of New Hampshire, under the tutelage of Providence-born Arlene Kies.
Cameron has given piano recitals throughout New England, and has performed on stages in Spain, Italy, Jamaica, Guatemala, and across the eastern United States. He has shared stages with the likes of jazz artists Branford Marsalis, Benny Green, Clark Terry, hip-hop artist Slick Rick the Ruler, reggae artists Steel Pulse, Gregory Isaacs, Culture and Cedric Brooks. He has featured on recordings by St. Croix's MIDNITE and Jamaica's Ernie Smith. He has released a 5-track EP with his brother, Travis on their original project, Homeslice. ConserFest, a music festival founded by Cameron and friends to raise awareness for land conservation, will kick-off July 16th, 2009, on Block Island.
Look for two highly-anticipated recordings this spring, with Cameron's first solo effort of reggae originals and covers, as well as the first release from his Providence-based trio, Kyoshii.
