Jongen: Symphonie Concertante with Michael Murray on Organ - In this episode of My Music w/ Dr. Mark Malkovich, Dr. Malkovich plays the music of Joeseph Jongen.  Jongen was born in Liege. On the strength of an amazing precocity for music, he was admitted to the Liège Conservatoire at the extraordinarily young age of seven, and there he spent the next sixteen years. The admission board was not disappointed. Jongen won a First Prize for Fugue in 1891, an honors diploma in piano the next year, and another for organ in 1896. In 1897, he won the prestigious Grande Prix de Rome which allowed him to travel to Italy, Germany and France.

Andrei Gavrilov Plays Rachmaninov - In this episode of My Music w/ Dr. Mark Malkovich, Dr. Malkovich plays the music of Andrei Gavrilov. Andrei Gavrilov was born in Moscow in 1955 in the artistic family.  His father Vladimir Gavrilov was a great painter, mother pupil of Henrich Neuhaus was his first teacher. He graduated central music school in Moscow in 1973 where he studied with Tatiana Kestner. Later this year he entered Moscow conservatory where his teacher was Lev Naumov. Vladimir Sofronitzki led an active concert life until his last years. His last year of concert activity was 1960. His final performance took place on January 9, 1961, in the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. He died from cancer on August 29, 1961.
